Founded in 1896, Hillcrest Family Services is a not-for-profit health services and education provider serving over 20,000 individuals each year. With primary programming and administrative offices in Dubuque, Hillcrest also operates programs in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Clinton, Washington, Ottumwa, Monticello, Maquoketa and Thomson, IL. The agency operates with an annual budget in excess of 20 million, has 500 employees, and is accredited by the Joint Commission and Coalition for Residential Education (CORE).
On-call rate: $2.50/hour, $3.00/hour weekends* or $4.00 on holidays
On-site reimbursement (minimum of 1 hour) when called in: $50.00/per hour weekdays, $60.00/per hour weekends* or $80.00/hour holiday rate
- Master's degree in a mental health field including, but not limited to, psychology, counseling and guidance, psychiatric nursing and social work; or is a doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine; and holds a current Iowa license when required by the Iowa professional licensure laws (such as a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a marital and family therapist, a mental health counselor, an advanced registered nurse practitioner, a psychiatric nurse, or a social worker); and has at least two years of post-degree experience supervised by a mental health professional in assessing mental health problems, mental illness, and service needs and in providing mental health services.30 hours of initial crisis intervention and training. A post-training assessment of competency is completed.

- Agency driver preferred. Must hold a valid driver's license, have access to a reliable vehicle and have that vehicle insured.
- Child/Dependent Adult Abuse training must be completed within 6 months of hire and every 5 years thereafter.
- Must complete an employment physical prior to employment.
- Must successfully complete criminal background check, including DHS evaluation (if needed, including documentation of follow-through for any stated employment restrictions); reference check forms (minimum of two); and employment physical, TB test and drug screen prior to contact with clients and as required thereafter.
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
- Be accessible to telephone during all on-call hours to come to the crisis house and complete a stabilization plan with the client. This must be done within 24 hours from the time the client arrived at the crisis house.
- Stabilization plan must include discharge, referrals and links to appropriate services and coordination with other systems. Description of any physical disability and accommodations necessary to provide the same or equal services with benefits as those not disabled. Evidence of input by client, including their signature. A goal statement and goals that are consistent with needs and projected length of stay. Objectives that are built on strengths and allow measurement of progress. Plan must also include rights restriction, signatures of all participating in development of plan and specifications of treatment responsibilities and methods.
- Documentation that completed crisis stabilization plan was completed within the 24 hour time frame and any reasons the stabilization plan does not meet criteria is documented.
- Be sure staff working the crisis house are aware of any follow up appointments made by you so they can follow up with client.
- If you were called in on a Saturday to complete a crisis stabilization plan, you need to meet with the client at least one hour on Sunday.
- Assumes other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Adult Residential Services or designee.
